Launching Students Into The COSMOS! |
For the last 11 summers, students from Morse High have participated in the California State Summer School for Math and Science (COSMOS). This year, Holly Phan was one of the 10 Morse students who lived at UCSD for a month to take part in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) "camp". During the day, she was a part of "Cluster 1: Computers in Everyday Life" cluster and learned computer science and engineering, developed apps, wrote code to manipulate images, and created an alarm clock and robot with an Arduino with students throughout California, the U.S. and China! Outside of class, activities included bonfires, casino nights, carnivals, sports, crafts, and talent shows. As a final project, Holly and her partner designed a device that would turn on lights, play music and give the current time based on hand motions. Holly thrived at COSMOS, strengthened her passion for STEM and taught her that she can accomplish her goals.
The COSMOS program is for rising 8th to 12th graders and is offered at UCSD, UC Irvine, UC Santa Cruz and UC Davis. Applications open will open in January 2018.

The Results Are In: Offical SAT Practice Pays Off
A study of 250,000 students from the class of 2017 showed that a little practice goes a long way - regardless of gender, race, income, or high school GPA. In fact, 20 hours on Khan Academy was associated with an average 115-point increase from the PSAT/NMSQT to the SAT.
Go to satpractice.org to share your scores and get a personalized SAT study plan based on your results from the PSAT/NMSQT, PSAT 10, PSAT 8/9, or SAT.
If you don't have scores to share, you can still go to satpractice.org for personalized practice - just take a few short quizzes and get a study plan that helps you focus on the areas you need to work on most.
