Black College Expo
|
The National College Resource Foundation, in conjunction with San Diego County Office of Education and San Diego Unified School District, will be hosting “Black College Expo” for the first time here in San Diego. This is an amazing opportunity for all students to inquiry, apply, and receive on-the-spot admission and scholarships from the participating colleges and universities.
This event is in it’s 19th year and has provided opportunities for all students to attend college.

On Friday January 26th, the students of Thurgood Marshall Middle School received a special visit from Andre Cerullo, Musical Director of the touring company of Hamilton. He spoke with students about dreams, working hard and accomplishing goals. He played several songs from the mega-hit musical while the students sung along.

A program of the San Diego Workforce Partnership, we help young adults secure employment using an online portal filled with thousands of local job and internship opportunities. We also provide in-person training opportunities so young people can build their résumés, practice elevator pitches, prepare for interviews and learn about our local labor market. When you sign up with us, you’ll even get your own Peer Job Coach who you can call, text, or direct message for help on your job search.

The Great Kindness Challenge

As part of a nationwide movement, students participate in activities each day at home, school & in their community that help create a culture of kindness. Point Loma Unity Game

Point Loma High School was proud to host our second annual "PLHS Unity Basketball Game".
This event incorporated some of our students with special needs into our Basketball and Cheer programs for several practices and one very fun co-ed game
The 2018 PLHS Unity Game will be held on Thursday Feb 1, 2018 @ 5:15pm.
This event is free to everyone.

2018 Summer School
|
|
Summer School for current high school students who need credit recovery (students making up Ds and Fs) will be held this summer from June 18th through July 27th. The student application period is from January 29th through June 7th. Open summer school sites are: Clairemont (at CPMA Campus) Crawford, Henry, iHigh, Lincoln, Mira Mesa, and Morse. Students may take seat-time classes or online classes – NOT BOTH.
Please note: if a student is taking their classes online via iHigh, they must designate one of the open sites to take their proctored exams. Students can choose to attend any site.
The Summer School program consists of two 2 hour classes. Summer school runs for 4 hours and 20 minutes (two 2 hour classes and a 20 minute break). Start times are noted on the student summer school application.
(Note: there is no transportation for students to attend summer school.)

DON DIEGO SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION OFFERS $73,000 IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO 35 OUTSTANDING STUDENTS IN SAN DIEGO AREA
DEADLINE: 3/19/18
In 2018, Don Diego Scholarship Foundation will award a record $73,000 in college scholarships to 35 outstanding students who reside in the San Diego area and have participated in the San Diego County Fair and/or other activities associated with the Del Mar Fairgrounds.
Scholarships are offered in six categories. Individual awards range from $1,000 to $5,000. The deadline to apply is March 19, 2018. Eligibility details and applications are at www.dondiegoscholarship.org. For questions, contact cmannen@sdfair.com.

Creating Rich Unique Intellectual Student Experiences (CRUISE) is a fun and FREE 3-day college preparation program offered during the summer and winter for NEW, incoming students.
CRUISE will help you become confident and prepared for your first year at Mesa College!

College Avenue Compact presents the Making College Possible Conference. Free event open to all families. Conference will include: lunch, guest speakers, child care, resource fair, giveaways, live entertainment and fun activities for everyone.

North Island Credit Union Annual Scholarship Program is Now Available
North Island Credit Union, A Division of California Credit Union is pleased to announce our Annual Scholarship Program is now available. Our program is designed to acknowledge exceptional students throughout the greater San Diego area. We will award 10 scholarships of $1,000 each to students who are motivated in their academic endeavors, active in their schools, and contributing to their community, giving back to others through their participation, service, and volunteer work. Submission of an essay and letter of recommendation will provide a testament to the character and abilities of the student applicant.
Applicant Qualifications
* Graduating high school senior enrolling into a two- or four-year college
or
Community college student transferring into a four-year university
* Minimum 3.0 grade point average (GPA)
* Evidence of community and/or school involvement

Cal Coast 2018 Foster Student Scholarship Program
This program is for college-bound high school seniors and current college students who are in or have been in the foster care program. The purpose of this scholarship is to assist foster students in furthering their education by enrolling in or continuing their studies at accredited colleges or universities.
To be eligible, the applicant must:
- Provide documentation that the applicant has been in the foster care program
- Have a cumulative high school or college grade point average (GPA) or equivalent of at least 2.5 (on a scale of 0-4.0). An official transcript (sealed) is required.
- Be accepted by or currently attend an accredited college or university on a full-time basis
- Submit a scholarship packet with all required components to the Cal Coast Cares Foundation, postmarked no later than March 31, 2018. No exceptions will be made. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
